Description:
The last section of the regional trail around Lake Attersee is once again a steep climb, but it also offers an impressive Attersee panorama and two good rest stops before you return to the northern shore of Lake Attersee.Directions:
In Weyregg am Attersee, you first cross the street near the lakeshore and then walk to the swimming area. Continue through the Jubiläumsallee (car park) to the bridge over the Weyregger Stream and then straight ahead on a footpath to the northern edge of the village. In front of Gästehaus Staudinger (at Gasthof Landeroith) turn right again and head to Weyregger Straße, which you follow to the right for 350 metres until reaching the Hemetsberger Nursery. There you turn left onto Plötzingerweg. At the power lines, the Brandsteig, a marked hiking trail (no. 5) to the Gahberg Mountain, begins on the left. The trail winds through forested slopes and next to meadows around the Brandner Farm up to the ridge of the Gahberg (864 m). Gorgeous view over Lake Attersee to the Schafberg Mountain!

Go right to a farm and then along the asphalted drive to the nearby Gahbergstraße, which you follow to the left over the entire ridge. After a section of forest, you pass the observatory and the shingle-clad Gahberg Chapel on Hintergahberg. Shortly afterwards, turn left onto the marked hiking trail to the Kreuzingalm Meadow. The trail leads above the meadow (short, worthwhile detour) over the ridge to the Schickermahd. Approximately 3 kilometres after the meadow, you cross the forested Alpenberg (973 m) and after a short descent, arrive at a fork, where an image of the Virgin Mary commemorates a bomb attack in 1945. Continuing straight ahead (sign “Hongar”) over the ridge, you arrive at Almgasthof Schwarz (884 m). 4:00 h

Hike back along the forest ridge to the previously mentioned fork with the image of Mary. Now turn to the right following the trail marker “Looh, Halbmoos” and descend along the rutted forest track (no. 6) through the forested north side of the Alpenberg to the idyllically situated Loitzenwiese Meadow (724 m, hunting lodge). There you turn left and follow forest track no. 3 across the forest ridge of the Schörflinger Trattberg (702) to the community of Erlath (500 m) am Sickingbach, where you can find refreshments at Landgasthof Schneiderwirt on the right. Go left along the asphalted Sickinger Straße into the valley, past the fire department and the renovated Poinerhaus. From the next crossroads, head right along Bachbauernstraße and the following Marktwalderstraße over a forested saddle (560 m). When you reach the open meadows again, turn left to the Waldvilla. There you turn right on Karl-Hausjell-Allee. Take the bridge over the bypass street and continue to Kammer-Schörfling (514 m). To the right, the route leads over the Ager Bridge and then heads left to Seewalchen am Attersee (472 m). 3:30 h

Tip:
Note: Bus connection (line 562) from Weyregg via Kammer to Seewalchen - course north; www.atterseeschifffahrt.atSafety guidelines:

  • In alpine terrain, be aware of the danger of falling rocks.

  • Through early summer, you may encounter steep snowfields or firn gullies – especially during icy conditions, there is an acute risk of falling and thus fatal injury!

  • Due to storm damage, forestry work or construction work, individual trail sections may be difficult or impassable at times.

  • Cows in the alpine meadows are often curious. Because they are nursing mothers, they develop a strong tendency to protect their calves. Therefore, move through cow pastures quietly, keep at least 20 metres of distance to the animals and never pet calves! In the case of threatening behaviour (pawing, stamping) slowly back away (do not turn your back). Keep dogs on a leash. They must not bark at or chase cows. In the case of an attack, the dog must be released from the leash.

Equipment:

For all stages, you will need hiking or mountain boots with treaded rubber soles as well as wind- and rainproof clothing. A change of clothes and a small first-aid kit should also be included in your backpack. The amount of provisions you should pack depends on the number of available rest stops. In any case, you should always take along plenty to drink. Telescopic poles are helpful, especially when walking downhill.
