"Crocus blooms in the garden, the ground is like a starry sky! And the mind lights up and the courage and the strength! " (Gustav Klimt to Emilie Flöge, March 11, 1916)
Klimt's enthusiasm for the floral colourfulness of nature unfolds particularly in his atmospheric landscape paintings, from the early orchards created around 1898 to his probably most fascinating garden depictions from 1907 onwards, which are no longer mere reproductions of nature, but rather unfold a free play of colours, forms and perspectives on square canvases.
Since 2003, the region has been honouring the world artist with a theme path in public space, and the Gustav Klimt Centre was opened in 2012. Since the beginning of summer 2019, the region has offered another outdoor attraction for locals and guests alike to discover the traces of Gustav Klimt at Lake Attersee: the world's first Gustav Klimt Garden. Six garden views of the master between 1907 and 1916 - farm garden, farm garden with sunflowers, orchard with roses (rose garden), farm garden with crucifix, Italian garden landscape and garden path with chickens - served as the basis for the extensive planting concept.
The garden landscape designed by the Klimt-Foundation and its regional partners, which was awarded and supported by the Federal Ministry for Sustainability and Tourism in 2018, is part of the Gustav Klimt theme path around Lake Attersee and is located directly in front of the Gustav Klimt Centre.
