Experience UNESCO World Heritage up-close – at the pavilions dedicated to the pile dwelling culture in the Salzkammergut region!
The famous pile dwelling settlements on the shores of Lake Attersee and Lake Mondsee are part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Two information pavilions were set up on Lake Attersee – ideal spots for plunging into the pile dwelling culture.

Get inspired now and try out the 360° Perspectives Tour!

The pavilion in Seewalchen invites visitors to identify with a prehistoric man/woman. Concise texts describe life on the lakeshore.
The stories describe the Stone and Bronze Age population as quite civilized people, the old and the young, their small and big tasks in everyday life.

  • Was there such a thing as leisure time, or was life shaped by practical activities and the fight for survival?
  • What were the illnesses they suffered from and to what ages did they live?
  • What kind of jewellery did they wear?
  • How do we know what they looked like?

Pile dwellings had to be repaired at a regular basis and could probably be inhabited for 10 to 30 years. The small houses allowed for very little privacy.
The clothes and objects to be seen on the re-enacted photographs are true to original reproductions.

Pile-dwelling dugout tours and private group tours are available by appointment at any time.
