This short and easy hike takes you partly through the "Reinthaller Moos" nature reserve. The tour is very suitable for children. The route is signposted (yellow signpost "Moosrunde") and marked (red-white-red).
The Reinthaller Moos is a calcareous tufa fen that was declared a nature reserve in 1990. Many rare and endangered plants grow here, especially numerous orchids. You can find out more about the unique nature reserve in Upper Austria here.
You start the hike at Attersee railway station. Here you will see the first signpost "Moosrunde". Walk along the tracks for approx. 250 metres before a signpost leads you left across a meadow to the campsite. Keep right at the campsite. After approx. 200 metres you come to a small crossroads where you keep right again. You will now reach the "Reinthaller Hof". The hiking trail leads straight ahead through the farm. After a few metres, you will come to a small forest and the nature reserve "Reinthaler Moos". Once you have reached the forest, the Moosrunde branches off to the right at the first crossroads. Now follow this forest path until you reach a narrow tarmac road and the district of Palmsdorf.
On arrival in Palmsdorf, please keep to the right. A lovely rest area with benches invites you to take a short break, or you can visit the cider tavern "Zum Hoangarten". If you would like to take the Atterseebahn back to the railway station, you can get on at the Palmsdorf stop. At the rest area in Palmsdorf you will find a signpost to the stop. Otherwise, keep to the right and immediately before the railway crossing, the Moosrunde branches off to the right again. Now you can follow the hiking trail along the Atterseebahn railway. Enjoy beautiful views of the Höllengebirge and if visibility is good, you can even see the Dachstein, the highest mountain in Upper Austria, 50 kilometres away to the south. At the Neuhofen stop, you can take a detour to the Bienenhof (with a themed trail, shop and café). Otherwise, continue walking until you get back to the train station.
From Attersee train station, it is only a few metres to the lakeside promenade of the village of Attersee am Attersee. Here you will find further opportunities for a stop for refreshments or a rest on the shores of Lake Attersee. In the immediate vicinity of the railway station you will also find the lido or the free public bathing area "Sprinzensteinpark".
