The following highlights make this route, alongside the wonderful nature, an unforgettable experience:

  • The early morning swim in Attersee,

  • the ascent to the Eisenaualm,

  • the Mondsee at Kreuzstein, where we can jump into the lake once more,

  • the Dachsteinblick, where we take a last look back at the landscape we traversed over the last days,

  • the new Kulmspitze viewing tower,

  • and shortly after, Mondsee.

Directions:

The Bergeseen 10 stage starts at the tourism office in Steinbach am Attersee. Heading south, we cross the L544 Grossalmstraße into Lehenweg. Passing old farms, we cross the Dürrenbach and ride 0.9 km along Dorfweg to the district of Haslach, where we sharply turn left following the S800 signs to B152 (471 m elevation, km 1.6).

We then follow the B152 along the lake towards Weißenbach and further towards Unterach, where after 4.1 km we use the bike path. After 1.4 km we cross B152 and turn into the forest road, which leads left uphill (484 m elevation, km 6.7) towards Eisenaualm and Schwarzensee.

Following the Lasseralmbach creek, we follow the S800 signs uphill. After about 3.6 km, a wonderful viewpoint awaits on the right (795 m elevation, km 10.3) overlooking the southern end of Attersee. Continuing past Moosalm, after about 700 m we reach a crossroad. If interested, it is possible here to go left (771 m elevation, km 11.1) to Schwarzensee or turn right onto the nature trail towards the gorge, lock the bikes, and enter Burgauklamm from above.

The original route continues steadily uphill on the forest road, where many bike encounters may occur. After about 3.7 km we reach the alpine pasture area and after another 1.2 km the day's highest point at 1016 m. Those feeling hungry and wanting a break at this beautiful spot can turn right (1009 m elevation, km 16.0) to Buchberghütte, which is biker-friendly.

Otherwise, now it goes downhill towards Mondsee. After 1.5 km, the first panoramic view (889 m elevation, km 17.5) opens over Mondsee towards Salzburg on Thalgauberg, which we got to know on the first stage. Another view awaits of Drachenwand and Eglsee before the forest road ends after 5 km (496 m elevation, km 22.5) and we turn right onto B154, which we leave after 600 m right towards Unterach.

After 700 m, we turn onto the bike path at Kienbergwand, ride 1.2 km through tunnels to Kreuzstein (481 m elevation, km 25.0) for a refreshing swim. The bike path ends here; we continue on Oberburgaustraße along Mondsee to its end after another 2.3 km. Here, on the bridge over Seeache, we have a view of Mondsee with Drachenwand, one of the most beautiful places for a sunset. After the bridge, we follow the bike path right for 3.2 km to Unterach am Attersee (470 m elevation, km 30.6).

Then we continue 8.5 km on the bike path towards Nußdorf am Attersee. After Dexelbach, we turn left uphill after the public bathing area and leave the bike path at the first opportunity to the left (489 m elevation, km 39.1) and follow the S800 signs up the switchbacks 900 m to Limbergstraße (566 m elevation, km 40.0), where we turn left. After 1.4 km, we turn right and after a left curve 400 m later again right towards Dachsteinblick (768 m elevation, km 42.5), which we reach after 800 m on asphalt.

From Dachsteinblick, the journey continues through the forest, with a last farewell glance over the shoulder at Hochlecken, Attersee, and the forest ridge that separates Attersee from Traunsee, leading us on the forest road to Oberwang (574 m elevation, km 51.3), which we reach after about 8.8 km.

After 2.6 km, at Riedschwandt (662 m elevation, km 53.4), we turn left into one of Upper Austria’s largest forest areas and follow the forest road towards Kulmspitze and Radstatt.

Below Mondseeberg, after about 8.5 km, we leave the forest via Tiefgraben and follow Mondseebergweg to Egg, where we turn left (784 m elevation, km 62.1) downhill towards Mondsee. After 4.2 km downhill on asphalt, we reach the final destination of the last stage.

Tip:

A detour to Schwarzensee and/or descent into the Burgauklamm are recommended, as well as a wonderful swim in Mondsee at Kreuzstein and a stop at Dachsteinblick to again internalize the experience of the last days.

Equipment:

Please note that all MTB routes must always be done with flawless equipment.

Additional information:

As new players on the field of mountain and leisure sports, we eMTB riders are particularly obliged to behave appropriately.

In Graubünden, bikers and hikers share the trails. A project that should set an example. But this only works with mutual respect. Black sheep set us back years.

With common rules, we ensure that the forest continues to offer a unique place for recreation, life, and work for everyone.
