Wels

Wels, Oberösterreich, Österreich

Wels, the jewel in the central region of Upper Austria, is a city grown out of history in the middle of nature. Wels is known as an international congress and trade fair city but also as a vibrant shopping city. Attractive shops and a high-quality gastronomy scene in the midst of historic buildings and squares encourage you to take a stroll about the town and enjoy yourself.

Even they knew it, the Romans: this place has it all! Already under Emperor Hadrian, the former Celtic settlement was raised to the status of "Ovilava".
The enchanting historical backdrop and numerous event highlights also offer a special attraction for culture lovers. It was called "Ovilava" by the Romans. Life culture has been held in high esteem for over 2000 years. Where past, present and future merge harmoniously, a particularly liveable and lovable city has emerged. Life pulsates between magnificent town houses and modern functional buildings, romantic arcaded courtyards and pubs, rustic wine taverns and dignified restaurants. The flair of the shopping city of Wels is appreciated far beyond the regional borders. More than 800 specialist shops, lively pedestrian zones, street musicians and pub gardens characterise the cityscape.

Besides being a city full of stories, Wels also has a lot to offer in terms of current events. Its central location between Salzburg and Vienna alone makes the "Little Historic City of Wels" an attractive venue for events. More than 2,000 events a year - including ideal accompanying programmes for conference participants, travel groups and families - attract an international audience to the city every year. For example, numerous trade and public fairs, the ShoppingNight, the FilmfestiWels and the Welser Arkadenhof Kultursommer are among the absolute highlights.
