This beautiful, easy family hike with several interacitve stations leads us to a waterfall which, according to legend, houses a mermaid.
This adventure trail is one of the seven Adventure Hiking Trails included in the Adventure Hiking Pass. Along the trails, children can collect stamps and exchange them for small gifts at the information offices of the Attersee-Attergau vacation region. This makes hiking even more exciting and varied for children.
The starting point for this family hike is the parking lot on the Allee in the village of Weißenbach am Attersee. From there, the route first follows the Künstlerweg toward the Weißenbach Valley until it reaches the state highway. After about 100 meters, cross the Fachberg Bridge on the right.
The trail then follows the Eibenberg Circular Trail along the Äußerer Weißenbach stream toward the south. After just a few meters, the route branches off to the right and leads through the shade of the trees to the Nixenfall waterfall. The trail is well-marked and, except for the final section, is also suitable for strollers.
Numerous interactive stations for balancing, touching, and exploring, as well as a waterwheel, make the trail a highlight, especially for children. Along the way, you’ll encounter goblins and their stories by Marie Mohn, which can be read or listened to as an audiobook via a QR code.
After a while, you’ll reach the impressive Nixenfall, which is about 50 meters high. A sign there tells the legend of the mermaid of Lake Attersee, and a mermaid statue stands by the waterfall.
After a break, the same trail leads back to the starting point.
There is a large car park on the avenue in Weißenbach directly on the B152, and a smaller one at the Fachbergbrücke bridge. Both are subject to a charge from April to October.
