Inauguration of the "stone of offence"

8 May 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the war in 1945 and thus the end of the Nazi reign of terror.

A "Stone of Offence" is inaugurated in the Kurpark to commemorate the victims of the Nazi era.

The spa park, which dates back to the 1960s, was built on the site of the Goiserermühle, which was expropriated in 1938. The central memorial to those Goiserners who fell victim to Nazi ideology is to be held there. For the time being, it will be people who were persecuted as Jewish or "Mischling" and therefore lost their property, such as the Schenner family, owners of the Goiserermühle, and the Horowitz family, from whom the park sanatorium (now Hanuschhof) was taken away.

This stone is intended to "trigger" reflection and remembrance, to remind us of these former Goiserer fellow citizens, and it also indicates that these people were criticised during the Nazi era.

In Bad Ischl, "pins" have been erected in recent years to commemorate the local events, and throughout Europe there are "stumbling stones" for victims of the Nazi era.

The project is intended to grow gradually and commemorate other people and victims, for example, up to 10 disabled or mentally handicapped people from Goisern were killed as "unworthy life" in Hartheim.
