Do you know Kaliště? Gustav Mahler was born in this small Czech village in the local inn on July 7, 1860. The tradition of the Brno Philharmonic also dates back to around this time. Mahler's "Bohemian-Moravian" roots are still kept alive today in the region where the composer was born. The Filharmonie Brno makes reference to this and plays Mahler 's symphonies for its debut at the OÖ. Stiftskonzerte will be playing Mahler's symphonic poem "Totenfeier" (Celebration of the Dead), which was used as the opening movement of the "Resurrection Symphony".
Founded in 1956, the orchestra performs many international guest appearances and is a proud figurehead of the Czech Republic, which is linked to a key name: Dennis Russell Davies. Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Filharmonie Brno since 2018, the long-standing head of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz and Honorary Conductor of the Upper Austrian Stiftskonzerte was awarded the Cultural Medal of Honor in Gold of the Province of Upper Austria in November 2024.
Chen Reiss, who has enjoyed a long collaboration with Dennis Russell Davies and will sing Strauss' "Four Last Songs" as a reminiscence of the "Metamorphoses", will have an equally joyful premiere in St. Florian.
