Mühlviertel Gravel: Northside

Starting at the Hotel FREIGOLD in Freistadt, you’ll head north and begin by cycling leisurely out of town. Passing through St. Peter, the route takes you along a mix of quiet side roads, gravel paths, and forest trails through the Mühlviertel region, with its characteristic rolling hills, meadows, and peaceful atmosphere. In the Dreißgen area, one of the most beautiful sections of the loop awaits: small farm roads, short climbs, and flowing sections where gravel bikes and e-MTBs really come into their own. You’ll then dive into the wild and romantic Thury Valley, where you’ll ride along the Feldaist through granite formations and dense greenery back toward Freistadt’s main square. There, the tour ends right in the heart of the historic old town—perfect for a coffee, ice cream, or a cold drink before covering the last few meters back to FREIGOLD.
A varied loop tour with plenty of nature, moderate elevation gain, and lots of fun—ideal for both gravel beginners and athletic recreational riders.
