Abriani 6 - Relaxation Trail

Path number: Abriani 6
Starting place: 5350 Strobl
Destination: 5350 Strobl

Through the Blinklingmoos

The Relaxation Trail winds through the Blinklingmoos Nature Reserve on the southern shore of Lake Wolfgang and combines nature experiences, landscape conservation, and cultural-historical highlights. The route runs from the center of Strobl to Gschwendt and offers numerous glimpses into the region’s diverse moorland landscape.

The hike begins in the center of Strobl. Shortly after leaving the built-up area, the trail leads through the Blinklingmoos, one of the most important nature reserves on Lake Wolfgang. Along the route, several “Gschmå-Platzl” information spots provide details about the unique features of this habitat.

The Blinklingmoos encompasses raised bogs, fens, and transitional bogs, as well as meadows, forests, streams, and the shallow shoreline areas of Lake Wolfgang with their stands of reeds and water lilies. The diverse landscape provides valuable habitats for numerous animal and plant species and is one of the region’s most ecologically significant areas.

After passing the Mooshäusl farm, you’ll reach the Maria im Blinklingmoos wayside shrine. The brick shrine houses a framed color painting of the Crowned Mother of God with the Baby Jesus. It was erected around 1964 by Father Maximilian Hechenblaickner and commemorates his regular walks with his blind housekeeper, Anna. A bench next to the wayside shrine invites you to take a break.

Further along, the trail leads to the Marian Chapel at the Breitenbach farm. The chapel houses a historic painting of the Virgin Mary commemorating a boating accident on Lake Wolfgang in 1831, in which three people lost their lives. According to tradition, the chapel was built around 1800 after the owner at the time was rescued from a life-threatening situation and subsequently vowed to build a chapel.

The route then continues uphill toward the Mahdhäusl Inn before entering a wooded area. Along this section, there are several rest areas and benches offering views of Lake Wolfgang and the town of St. Wolfgang. Picnic areas and places to relax are also available.

The Relaxation Trail is characterized by its varied route through moorlands, along lakeshores, through forests, and past scenic viewpoints. The numerous information stations provide interesting facts about the natural and cultural landscape of the southern shore of Lake Wolfgang.

The trail ends at the bus stop in Gschwendt. From there, you can return to the starting point by public transportation or continue your hike on another Abriani Trail.
