Easy and varied hike for children on well-maintained paths through sparse forest, with an elevation gain of around 190 meters and a walking time of around 2 hours at a leisurely pace. A special highlight is the observation tower on the Kulmspitze with its numerous steps and impressive panoramic views over the Salzkammergut.
The Kulmspitz is not only accessible via the forest road, but also via an attractive hiking trail - which many people don't know. It is important to make the right choice right at the start: from the parking lot, do not follow the yellow signs uphill, as these lead onto the forest road. If you prefer a more varied trail, take the Alpine Club Trail No. 1, which takes you about 50 meters downhill to a forest road that leads to the start of the hiking trail. This variant is much more exciting, especially for children, as pure forest roads often offer little variety.Quiz for children:
How many steps does the viewing tower have?
From the parking lot, first follow the road downhill for around 50 meters and then turn right onto the forest road, where there is a barrier. After a bend, you reach a meadow on the left. At the end of the meadow, take a sharp right onto the marked hiking trail no. 1 - pay close attention to the red-white-red markings, which are only clearly visible at the turn-off. Follow the path steadily uphill until you reach a yellow signpost, then continue flat to the right and finally up to the final ascent towards the viewing tower.
The way back is along the same route or alternatively via the signposted forest road - although this option is less varied.
