A long, long time ago - when the Danube flowed more wildly and hardly anyone knew about its secret side arms - pirates wreaked havoc along its course. They were feared and notorious because they attacked merchant ships, plundered rich cities and then disappeared without a trace into the mists of the river. Among all these privateers, there was one name that inspired fear and awe among sailors: Captain Ed Black.

Captain Black was not only ruthless - he was above all clever, cunning and a master of disguise. It is said that he knew secret paths through swamps, hidden caves underground and had allies in the most sinister places. Over the years, he and his crew amassed a huge fortune - gold, jewels, artifacts from distant lands. And all this is said to have been hidden in a single place: the hiding place of the Danube pirates' treasure.

But like every story involving gold, fame and dark magic, this one also had a dark ending. Ed Black was exposed by a traitor in his own ranks. He was caught on a stormy night - and before he could save his treasure, he was hanged. It is said that at the last moment he cursed anyone who dared to touch his booty. Since then, stories have circulated of curses, ghostly apparitions and strange noises that can be heard from ancient ruins along the shore.

Many believed in the curse, some laughed about it. But no one found the treasure - or ever returned when they started looking. And so the legend of the Danube pirates' treasure slowly disappeared into the mists of time. The map that was supposed to lead to its hiding place was considered lost. The old songs that contained clues were forgotten. And the name Ed Black became a fairy tale for children and cranks.
