The start is at the Impulshotel Freigold in Freistadt and there are a few short climbs to the whisky distillery Affenzeller, which gives this tour its name. The route continues downhill to Gallneukirchen, where a short but steep climb awaits. You reach the Aisttal valley via Katsdorf and Ruhstetten. Once here, the route leads past the ruins of Reichenstein Castle to Gutau. Small side roads take you to Weinberg Castle, from where the route is mostly flat back to Freistadt.
