Ski tour Weyer/Kleinreifling - Almkogel

Short description:
A wonderful high winter tour on the Almkogel with some steeper passages in the summit area.

Recommended season:
  • January
  • February
  • November
  • December
Properties:
  • Loop

Description:
From the parking lot in Klaus, walk along the forest road until the marked summer trail branches off to the right to the Saileralm. Follow this for the rest of the ascent. From there, the trail leads along a forest road up to the huts located at just under 1,000 m above sea level. Take the forest road on the right for a further 100 meters until the path branches off to the left and leads below the summit slope. Follow this on the right to a ridge and then left to the highest point. The descent takes you directly from the summit and down to the forest road. From here it is the same as the ascent.Directions:
The tour starts in Klaus. The route initially climbs quite steeply on a forest road, past a chapel. After around 600 meters, a signpost points the way to the Saileralm and the Almkogel. There you leave the forest road via a short ladder to the right of the embankment, for which you have to unbuckle your skis briefly.

After another kilometer along a leisurely forest path, you reach the beautifully situated Saileralm at 746 meters. Alternatively, you can also reach the Alm via the forest road. This option is around one kilometer longer, but very flat. Keep to the right at three crossroads.

From the Saileralm, a goods road leads around 1.5 kilometers to the north, first to the left and later to the right of the Arzbach stream. The path is at risk of avalanches due to the steep slopes of the Arzmauer on the right.

At around 1,000 meters above sea level, the ski route branches off to the left onto the Wieser. At a forest road junction at an altitude of around 1,100 meters, a marked path leads north to the Almkogel.

However, stay on the forest road, turn right and follow it for about 800 meters in the direction of the crossing. Then leave the forest road to the left into a hollow and climb up an increasingly steep ridge to the Hühnerkogel.

Safety guidelines:
Every tour should be well planned and prepared. Good equipment with avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe is essential. Weather forecasts, avalanche warnings and safety instructions must be observed.
