The "Wilheringer Pilgerweg. Pilgrims between the Danube and the Vltava" stretches over 132 kilometers and connects the Danube with the Vltava in 6 stages. It leads through 12 communities in the districts of Linz-Land and Urfahr-Umgebung in the Mühlviertel region as well as through Vyšší Brod in South Bohemia.
The monasteries of Wilhering and Vyšší Brod are both Cistercian monasteries and share a centuries-long history. The monastery in Vyšší Brod was founded in 1259 and settled with twelve monks from Wilhering.
Along the way, 14 churches invite you to spiritual experiences inspired by the theology of the Cistercians and Benedictines. The pilgrimage trail begins at the Cistercian monastery in Wilhering and leads in several daily stages along existing paths to the Cistercian monastery in Vyšší Brod before returning to Wilhering.
Hikers can start their hike at any point along the route and also explore the stages individually.
