Historically interesting hike on partly lonely paths and asphalted side roads. Very well signposted, again and again you come across the easily recognizable route of the former railroad line.
From Neumarkt the hike leads to Lest (km 7.2) and from there to the Kerschbaum horse-drawn railway station in Rainbach im Mühlkreis (km 27.6).
More information can be found on the website "Der Weg des Salzes"
Interesting bridge structures, well-preserved railroad keeper's cottages and a mighty station building of our country's first railroad can be seen on this hiking route. As most of the hiking trail in the municipality of Rainbach runs along the former route of the horse-drawn railroad, you often hike along existing railroad embankments, often through shady forests. The museum in Kerschbaum has been set up in the former stables of Kerschbaum station. Here you will also find the first station restaurant on the European continent. It is open every Sunday afternoon from May to October. Here you can take a nostalgic ride on the 500-metre-long original replica horse-drawn railroad line.
