Description:
A popular tour on well-maintained hiking trails to the summit of the Hochbuchberg, above the Grünburger Hütte.Tour length: 9.3 km Elevation gain: 571 mStarting point: Rieserberg car park (free) - coordinates (47.932716, 14.262803)Directions:
We start at the Rieserberg car park and walk along the forest road on the right. The route is now moderately steep up to the Wetterkreuz, which we reach after 1.7 kilometres. Continuing along the road, we walk straight over it at a crossroads, then a short but somewhat steep climb along the forest road until we reach the hiking trail through the forest. Now we continue a little steeper on the well-maintained hiking trail, which leads us directly to the Grünburger Hütte, which we reach after 3.6 kilometres. Immediately behind it, the path continues up across the meadow and into the forest. Then over a section of alpine meadow. Here a sign on a tree shows us the way to Hochbuchberg. There are now two options on the ascent to the summit, either the direct steep path up to the right or a moderately steep forest road to the left. Both paths lead to the destination, the summit cross of the Hochbuchberg at 1273 metres above sea level. We walk back down across the alpine meadow to the Grünburger Hütte, again through the forest to the Wetterkreuz. Here we don't take the road we came on, but turn right onto a hiking trail into the forest. There are many roots on the well-trodden hiking trail. A lot of mud and therefore slippery when wet. Caution is advised. We return relatively quickly to our starting point at the Rieserberg car park.Tip:
Year-round refreshment stop at the Grünburger Hütte.Equipment:
******

The required equipment always depends on the particular tour and the weather conditions. Regarding the food: This is very individual and it is recommended to have rather too much than too little with equipment and food. For a 5km round in the valley you need less than for a demanding tour in the mountains. The weather can change quickly and if you are not constantly on the move or need to take a break, for example, warming clothing is of great importance.

We have a general checklist for you here:

weather-appropriate running gear for the season - weather forecast - region - elevation. This includes: * a waterproof rain jacket * a waterproof rain trousers suitable for running * Gloves and warm headgear (hood/headband/towel). * sunglasses + sunscreen + headgear for very warm days

Drinking bottles, softflasks or a hydration bladder with enough liquid for the respective tour (if necessary also salt tablets/magnesium)
