There are various options for the start, one of which is under the country road directly on the Dammweg.
First of all, the trail leads to the district of Jainzen and then continues upwards along excellent forest roads, following the markings towards Saihersbachalm through the forest. At this point, the trail becomes steeper for the first time and crosses a free-standing area past the unmanaged alpine pasture.
The trail continues into a forest, where most people will probably switch to a power hike here at the latest. The terrain becomes increasingly steep and finally you have to cross a short steep step with a rope, which must be passed carefully in wet conditions.
The final hairpin bends take you to the summit plateau of the Gspranggupf. The next section is a dream for trail runners! Gently undulating and ultra-flowing, you traverse back and forth between the tree trunks, up and down, along the ridge, over the single trail towards Bad Ischl.
But not so fast! Before finally heading back there via numerous hairpin bends, ambitious runners can make a proper "detour" over the Leonsberg, but this should not be underestimated and is something for those with local knowledge.
We now follow the steep path downwards, which is interspersed with short ropes, pegs and steps in places. Concentration is required here, but it is also great fun! You reach the Zimmnitzbach, which is fed by steep waters that flow together here. The terrain now invites you to take it easy after your thighs have been well challenged on the downhill!
Follow the marked hiking trails back to the dam path and finally back to the starting point.
