The Traun flows through the Salzkammergut, a rural cultural region that will be the European Capital of Culture in 2024. It is used to cross municipal and national borders. In water pilgrimages, borders are overcome: external geographical and political borders, but also internal borders. Inspired by flowing water that finds its own path, life can find ways towards a more human coexistence.
The first stage goes from Roitham am Traunfall to Traunkirchen.

From the Roitham St. Jakobus parish church it goes past the Gasthof Forstinger to the Traunfall. There the Traunfall chapel. St. Nicholas can be visited. Via Viecht and the Landgasthof Kastenhuber you hike to Ehrenfeld and Sandhäuslberg to Steyrermühl, where you can visit the papermaking museum. Past the Kohlwehr and the Waldesruh inn we go to Laakirchen and Kleinreith to the Gmundner Rathausplatz.

The ship continues from Gmunden to Traunkirchen. You can find the current timetable here. Alternatively, you can take the Traunseetram to Gmundner train station and travel to Traunkirchen with the Salzkammergut Bahn.
Starting point: Roitham St. James Parish Church
