Gamsfeld (from Postalm)

Trail marker 879; walking time for the ascent approx. 4½ hours, for the return journey 4 hours; a long but very rewarding hike to the highest peak in the Postalm area; sturdy walking boots are recommended. Refreshments available at the Rinnbergalm and the Angerkarhütte.

From car park 1, you walk up to the memorial cross at the Moosbergsattel. From there, the route continues along an alpine path which initially descends briefly, then climbs again on the left-hand side of the valley to a pasture gate, from where you follow a wide arc around the Moosbergriedel back to an alpine road. Follow this road downhill to the beautifully situated Rinnbergalm, 1,249 m (2 hours). From there, follow an alpine road to the Angerkarhütte, then climb slightly more steeply up into the large cirque and, keeping to the right, into a saddle, from where you reach the summit cross via a grassy slope and a short section of ridge. From here, you have a sweeping panoramic view of the Salzkammergut mountains, the Dachstein and the Tennengebirge.
