A leisurely bike tour through the romantic Rettenbachtal alternates with a beautiful but long circular hike in the Kalkalpen National Park to the imperial hunting lodge.
The Bärenriedlau hut is not a managed hut! It was built in the 18th century for cattle herders and hunters and later served the Austrian heir to the throne Franz Ferdinand as Jadgunterkunft. On open days, interested visitors can tour the culturally and historically interesting facility and learn how the once aristocratic hunting area around the Bärenriedlau developed into a game rest area in the Kalkalpen National Park.

From the Windischgarsten sports field (free parking), take the R31 cycle path behind the Roßleithen train station through the Rading district, past the first Vorderer Rettenbach car park, along the Rettenbach to the end of the street. The changing point is at the Hinterer Rettenbach hunting lodge where the hike starts.
