On this somewhat more alpine half marathon, you will explore three lakes around St. Wolfgang, including some lesser-known gems.
From the district of Schwarzenbach near St. Wolfgang, you walk to the Schwarzensee, which is circumnavigated to see all the idyllic spots. Via the Sommeraualm you reach the spectacularly beautiful Gipefl of the Vormauerstein. After overlooking the incredible mountain scenery and taking in the views down into the valley and of Lake Wolfgangsee, the route flows smoothly across lush meadows and paths to the third lake of the day: Mönichsee. The downhill from there is first technical and fun, then super relaxed along forest roads towards St. Wolfgang. On the last few kilometers back to the starting point, we make the most of every single trail in the forest and enjoy the lovely countryside.
Directions:You start at the St. Wolfgang Schwarzenbach bus stop or at the parking lot there. The signs point the way to the Schwarzensee. We first walk along the right bank on asphalt, but soon complete the circuit on a wide hiking trail. At the Seegasthaus Alm-Stadl, we follow the Sattelweg. We can walk slightly uphill to the next junction, where the path turns sharp right and from now on follows the ridge up to the Sommeraualm. Follow the markings up to the edge of the forest a little before the alpine pasture and then over several rocky sections up to the high plateau. There are some private huts there. From here you can already see the cross of the Vormauerstein. Once at the top, descend carefully and then keep left as soon as possible. You come to a junction where you continue in the direction of Schafberg. The route is beautiful, flowing and easy to run until you reach Mönichsee. The small, cold lake forms the transition to the downhill section. At the fork in the trail, we take a steep left downhill. The trail crosses the forest road several times here until it remains completely on it and leads us down into the valley. Of course, we don't want to return via asphalt, which is why we walk over a few steps on a small hill past the village of St. Wolfgang. Afterwards, the path towards Schwarzenbach is well marked again and leads us gently up and down through meadows and forests back to the starting point.
Tip:Very rewarding in both directions.
Safety guidelines:Dress appropriately for the weather. Don't underestimate the way back - the small counter-climbs after the long downhill can be a challenge
