Description:
This alpine variant of the Salzkammergut BergeSeen Trail leads from the Gosauseen lakes into the high alpine rock wilderness around the Adamekhütte. This refuge was opened by the Alpine Club in 1905 and named after one of its deserving officials. It stands in one of the most beautiful places in the Dachstein Mountains - just behind it, the Great Gosau Glacier nestles below the Hohe Kreuz, the Niedere and Hoher Dachstein, the Mitterspitz and the Schneebergwand, a protrusion of the mighty Torstein.Directions:
From Gosau-Hintertal you first hike along the route of the 14th stage of the Salzkammergut Trail into the valley - from the Gosauschmied guesthouse next to the Gosausee road up to the small reservoir, then turn right after the sign "Panoramaweg bis Gosausee" past the "Urzeitwald" and again on the sidewalk of the road to the Vordere Gosausee (937 m). 1:00 h

From the Gasthof Gosausee, turn left onto the wide path above the dark waters of the Vordere Gosausee. At the fork in the forest road to Ebenalm, stay on the flat lakeside path that leads through the rock walls above the water (above and below it runs the Via ferrata "Laserer alpin"). From the junction of the south shore trail, continue marching along the forest trail into the valley, past the Niedere Holzmeisteralm and the periodically filled Gosaulacke. Below the Launigg-Wasserfall, the route ascends to the Luegbichl. Through a forest ditch you reach the Hintere Gosausee (1,154 m). 1:45 h On its southern shore, a short detour leads to the hospitable Hohe Holzmeisteralm on the left.

Trail no. 614 towards "Adamekhütte", on the other hand, leads to the right into the wildly torn ditch of the chalk brook and then zigzags to the left of it through lightly wooded slopes up to the Niedere Bärenstaffel. Next to a ditch to a steep step, which the path overcomes in many serpentines. Passing the ruins of the coarse rock hut built in 1879 - the first mountaineering accommodation in this area - you reach the Hoher Riedel (2,035 m) below the Schreiberwandeck, where the trail splits. You go straight on - continuing with the marking No. 614 - through the rocky karst terrain towards the mighty Schreiberwand and up to the right of it in hairpin bends to the Adamek Hut (2,196 m). The view from this alpine club hut to the Dachstein and the Gosaukamm is magnificent. 3:15 h Continue on the alpine variant to the Simony Hut or descend on the same route (5:00 h).

Tip:
Note: Bus connection (line 542) from Gosau-Hintertal to Vordere Gosausee.Safety guidelines:

  • In alpine terrain, pay attention to the danger of falling rocks.

  • Until early summer you can encounter steep snowfields or firn gullies - especially in icy conditions there is then an acute danger of falling and thus of death!

  • Due to storm damage, forestry work or construction work, individual sections of the trail may be temporarily difficult or impossible to pass.

  • Cows on the alp are often curious. Because they are mother cows, they develop a strong drive to protect their calves. Therefore, move quietly on cow pastures, keep at least 20 m distance to the animals and do not stroke calves under any circumstances! In case of threatening gestures (pawing, stamping) slowly move away backwards (do not turn your back). Dogs on a leash, they must not bark at cows or even chase them. In the event of an attack, it is essential to let them off the leash.

Equipment:
For all stages you will need hiking or mountain boots with a treaded rubber sole as well as wind- and rainproof clothing.

A change of clothes and a small first-aid kit should also be in your backpack. How much food you pack depends on the number of stops you make. In any case, you should take enough to drink. Telescopic poles are especially helpful when going downhill.
