Description:
On this downhill stage, you should always stop and look back: During the descent from the Welser Hütte, the Schermberg seems to just outgrow itself.Directions:
From the Welser Hut, continue downhill on trail no. 215. Pass under the material cable car and over a steep slope (steps) you reach a secured rock ledge, from which you climb down a short ladder. Continue zigzagging down through steep scree, scree and forest slopes. Then the "foundation walls", the lowest bastions in the enormous rock circus between the Großer Priel and the Schermberg, must be overcome, with the help of steel cables and the long metal staircase at Wiesinger Eck. Via the secured Hans-Pumberger-Band and some serpentines you finally reach the Ackergraben. After crossing the streambed, you pass the valley station of the material cable car and hike on a forest road through the rear Hetzau towards the Almtaler Haus (714 m). This cozy alpine club accommodation also forms the intersection with the alpine variant Kasberg (tour K1, page 192). 2:30 h Alongside the Hetzaubach you finally march about 6 km out into the Almtal. After the bridge over the Alm, you will find the Jagersimmerl (577 m) on the right, where stage 21 of the Salzkammergut BergeSeen Trail also ends. 1:30 hTip:
Note: Traunstein Taxi, Route 60 from Grünau im Almtal train station to Almtalerhaus - order at least 1 hour in advance.Safety guidelines:

  • In alpine terrain, pay attention to the danger of falling rocks.

  • Until early summer you can encounter steep snowfields or firn gullies - especially in icy conditions there is then an acute danger of falling and thus of death!

  • Due to storm damage, forestry work or construction work, individual sections of the trail may be temporarily difficult or impossible to pass.

  • Cows on the alp are often curious. Because they are mother cows, they develop a strong drive to protect their calves. Therefore, move quietly on cow pastures, keep at least 20 m distance to the animals and do not stroke calves under any circumstances! In case of threatening gestures (pawing, stamping) slowly move away backwards (do not turn your back). Dogs on a leash, they must not bark at cows or even chase them. In the event of an attack, it is essential to let them off the leash.

Equipment:
For all stages you will need hiking or mountain boots with a treaded rubber sole as well as wind- and rainproof clothing.

A change of clothes and a small first-aid kit should also be in your backpack. How much food you pack depends on the number of stops you make. In any case, you should take enough to drink. Telescopic poles are especially helpful when going downhill.
