BergeSeen Trail P1: Gößl - Pühringerhütte

Description:
This alpine variant of the Salzkammergut BergeSeen Trail leads you into the stony center of the Tote Gebirge. There, around the huge rock block of the Großer Priel (2,515 m), the massive Schermberg (2,396 m) and the pointed Temlberg (2,331 m), this huge mountain group really seems to be dead. Nevertheless, the way there runs through one of the most beautiful sceneries of the Salzkammergut - and, one would hardly believe it, also through lush greenery.Directions:
From Gößl, hike up as in stage 20 on trail no. 214 to Vorderer Lahngangsee (1,494 m) and continue to the wooden huts in Elmgrube (1,622 m). 2:45h

There, however, follow the sign "Zur Pühringerhütte" to the right and climb along the Ausseerweg trail, which is piled up of stones in places, through wooded karst slopes. Between the Hochkogel (2,091 m) and the craggy rock foundation of the Elms (2,128 m), you will pass the Kleinen Windloch and the Großes Windloch in ups and downs - ice-cold air flows up from these two sinkholes. On "Emils Tränenhügel" you will see the nearby Pühringerhütte (1,638 m) for the first time. The cozy alpine club hostel stands directly above the shore of the small Elm Lake. 45 minutes

Summit detour to the Rotgschirr (2,261 m)Safety guidelines:

• In alpine terrain, pay attention to the danger of falling rocks.


• Until early summer you can encounter steep snowfields or firn gullies - especially in icy conditions there is then an acute danger of falling and thus of death!


• Due to storm damage, forestry work or construction work, individual sections of the trail may be temporarily difficult or impossible to pass.


• Cows on the alp are often curious. Because they are mother cows, they develop a strong drive to protect their calves. Therefore, move quietly on cow pastures, keep at least 20 m distance to the animals and do not stroke calves under any circumstances! In case of threatening gestures (pawing, stamping) slowly move away backwards (do not turn your back). Dogs on a leash, they must not bark at cows or even chase them. In the event of an attack, it is essential to let them off the leash.

Equipment:
For all stages you will need hiking or mountain boots with a treaded rubber sole as well as wind- and rainproof clothing.

A change of clothes and a small first-aid kit should also be in your backpack. How much food you pack depends on the number of stops you make. In any case, you should take enough to drink. Telescopic poles are especially helpful when going downhill.
