The tour links the history of the use of hydropower in the course of time with the changes in the watercourse from the source to the reservoir. It also provides an overview of the various types of hydropower plants and turbines. The “generation” of renewable electricity and the transfer of knowledge are thus linked to the use of electricity for mobility purposes. At the end of the tour you will be informed about the energy and pollutant savings compared to a conventional car or an e-car.
The tour begins on foot at the hiking car park in Roßleithen, where there are also charging stations for e-bikes. First you walk to Pießling Ursprung. Then, on the way back, past the Stummermühle to the Waldhammer inlet and to the machine house of the Kleinhammer through the factory premises. When you get back to the hiking car park, the tour continues by bike in the direction of Vorderstoder. Then right through the Kaixen to the former Enghagen zoo where the inlet of the Pernegger power station is. Following the street you come to the power house. The journey continues under the B138 to the Grimmer power station, near the confluence of the Pießling and Teichl rivers. The route then leads near the former Pießling train station under the railway line past the home of downhill world champion Hannes Trinkl's parents to the R31 cycle path towards St. Pankraz. When you arrive at the Teichel Bridge, you can see the Brandstätter overwater power plant on the left. The actual power plant, further downstream, is not accessible and cannot be seen. The route now leads along the R31 cycle path to the cycle bridge over the Teichl at the confluence with the Steyr (R8). The tour then leads over the old railway bridge over the Steyrtal cycle path (R8) to the Klaus reservoir, the end point of the tour.
