Description:
Impressive bike ride along the route of the former forest railroad.

Directions:
From the center of Reichraming, drive along the Reichramingbach stream on Anzenbachstraße to the Anzenbach parking lot. Here you turn right onto the Waldbahnstraße into the Hintergebirge. Without any noticeable incline we cycle to the turn-off Maieralm. Please pay attention here and do not be deceived by the course of the stream. We cross the Plaißabach and follow the Große Bach on the right.

After about 1 1/4 hours of cycling we have arrived at the once most important drift construction in the Hintergebirge. The Große Klause is the oldest Klause in the Hintergebirge. For the drifting distance of 11.6 kilometers to the Schallauer rake in Reichraming, the wood needed one hour. Between the two tunnels you can descend to the gorge along a reconstructed piece of Triftsteig.

Now only a few meters separate us from the Klaushütte. Built in 1758, it served as accommodation for the lumberjacks. Today it is an ÖBf supply station for thirsty and hungry cyclists and hikers. The Klaushütte is open from May 1 to mid-October (weather permitting) from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday and on holidays, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends in October.

We cycle between the Bear Wall and the Devil's Ditch along the Great Brook, past the Keixen, until we reach the entrance to the Great Gorge. For a rest we find a small hut here at the Annerlsteg.

Tip. Here at the Annerlsteg you can enter the Triftsteig.

Our bike path now leads us through some longer tunnels of the former forest railroad. At kilometer 20 we meet the Schleierfall (waterfall), here the Hochlachtbach drops to the Schwarzer Bach. We cycle on to Weißwasser. Here a large settlement for workers was built for bauxite mining in the area of Blaberg, Prefing and Schwarza. From Weißwasser we continue to Mooshöhe. Here the snack station offers the opportunity for a comfortable rest. From now on it goes downhill to Unterlaussa. Here you will find the connection to the R31 Nationalpark-Kalkalpenradweg or R7 Ennstalradweg.

Please note: Cycling and mountain biking in the National Park area is allowed from April 15 to October 31, 2 hours after sunrise to 1 hour before sunset! Some bike trails are also designated as hiking trails or horse trails. Always expect oncoming hikers or horseback riders!

Tip:
Variant: for leisurely cyclists over the Hirschkogelsattel to Brunnbach and from there back to Reichraming.

Safety guidelines:
Inquire in advance about any road or bike path closures along the route.

Equipment:
We recommend a light MTB as the R9 runs on forest roads.
