From Ebensee, first follow the signs for "Feuerkogel" on one of the 4 routes. One of them starts directly in the village via the Kalvarienberg, 3 of them start near the Feuerkogel cable car and are signposted. The most popular route from the cable car is the one towards Katzenwoferlklause because it is the most direct route. If you want to stretch your muscles or warm up beforehand, you should take the private road to the Kalvarienberg or the hiking trail via the Schulerberg (rear end of the cable car car park). All options are signposted and relatively easy to find.
Then follow trail 820/804, which the locals call the "Feuerkogel summer trail". After around 2 1/2 hours you reach the Kranabethhütte (the former Naturfreundehaus), where the path turns left and leads into the Vordere Edeltal. Then simply follow the signs and markings to the "Alberfeldkogel" viewing platform, which is well worth seeing and can be reached after around 1 hour. Then continue on trail 835 and later on trail 820/804. At the so-called "Totengrabengupf", you have the choice of turning right and taking the "Sommerweg" to the Riederhütte (somewhat steeper) or continuing straight ahead on the "Winterweg" route (which ski tourers follow in winter) through the Höllkogelgrube to the hut. Walking time Alberfeldkogel to Riederhütte approx. 1 1/4 hours.
