Brunnkogel Tour including Mathiaskogel, Jagaköpfl and Hochleckenkogel

Starting place: 4853 Steinbach am Attersee
Destination: 4853 Steinbach am Attersee

This demanding but very rewarding summit hike in the Höllengebirge leads to four peaks in the Höllengebirge and offers spectacular views. From the Taferklause the way goes up to the Hochleckenkogel (1691 m), on to the Brunnkogel (1708 m), then to the Mathiaskogel (1660 m) and the Jagaköpfel (1668 m). After a rest in the Hochleckenhaus you go back to the Taferlklaussee.

Get inspired now and try out the 360° Panorama Tour!

From the Taferklause, Hiking Trail 827 leads toward the Hochleckenhaus via forest paths and a fairly steep scree slope. At the trail sign, the route branches off onto Trail No. 829 toward the Hochleckenkogel.

After reaching the mountain pine-covered Hochleckenkogel, there’s a short descent before climbing the Brunnkogel. There stands the 14-meter-high summit cross, considered the highest summit cross in the Eastern Alps.

The tour continues along Trail No. 828 toward the Hochleckenhaus. The Matthiaskogel lies directly on the trail. A short detour to the Jagaköpfel takes about 10 minutes. For the descent after the Hochleckenhaus, Trail No. 827 leads back to the starting point.

Alternative Route:
If you return from the Brunnkogel via the same route instead of continuing on to the other peaks, the walking time is reduced by about 40 minutes. The distance is then approximately 9.7 km.
