The Nordwaldkammweg was created around 1910 by the German Bohemian Forest Association. During the interwar period (1st Republic until 1945), the Nordwaldkammweg ran partly on Austrian and partly on Czech territory.
The 5th edition (1929) of the "Guide to the Bohemian Forest" describes the course of the ridge trail from west to east:
Schwarzkoppe - Tannaberg - Gewintzy - Osser - Eisenstein - Stubenbach - Pürstling - Lusen - Kurschada - Dreisessel - Glöcklberg - Untermoldau - Friedberg - Hohenfurth - Rosenberg.
The Nordwaldkamm Trail III starts in Oberschwarzenberg and ends in Nové Hrady.
