Special features along the way: Beautiful view from the Schüttbauern Alm to the south to the nearby Gesäuse mountains.
Now a quick look across the Styrian border, where the market town of St. Gallen looks back on an eventful history in the north of the Gesäuse mountains. Looking ahead, the town, overlooked by a revitalised castle ruin, also has a promising future for bikers: the 1138-kilometre "Alpentour Steiermark" stops here, and in its wake a number of well-signposted local routes have been created. One of these leads through the little-known mountain farming region of Breitau via the even less popular Schwarzeck into the Laussa Valley. This tour alone would not be enough to fill a day, but with the ascent to the Schüttbauern Alm, which is already in Upper Austria, directly below the 1540 metre high Bodenwies, there is a lot of distance to cover and the altitude profile also increases considerably. At the top, 30 young cattle and suckler cows look forward to the summer, and the renovated and very well-run hut invites you to stop for a bite to eat. You can even spend the night here and marvel at the Buchstein group towering opposite in the morning light.
The tours presented here are suggested tours that are provided free of charge. After agreeing to the terms of the disclaimer you receive detailed information such as altitude profiles, route plans, and an option for downloading files etc.
