Feuerkogel tour to Alberfeldkogel and Helmeskogel From the cable car station, you first walk along the edge of the baby slope or the mountain inns to the Heumahdgupflift.
There you should turn left into the depression, as crossing the slope is somewhat difficult with snowshoes (unless a wide path has already been trodden) and sometimes also dangerous due to avalanches. Once at the bottom, keep right until you reach the crossroads, the so-called "Gasselhöhe", where you then keep right and follow the sign "Alberfeldkogel"/snowshoe route 2. The snowshoe trail is hilly with ascents and descents, but can be done by anyone with a normal level of fitness and the ability to handle snowshoes. Once you reach the highest point of the tour, the 1707 m high Alberfeldkogel, the Europakreuz and a magnificent view of the lake landscape of the Salzkammergut await you. You can see 3 lakes: the Traunsee, the Vorderer Langbathsee and the Attersee.
Then you hike back to the "Gasslhöhe" crossroads and continue to the Helmeskogel viewing platform, marked as snowshoe trail 1. But be careful, this trail is actually slightly easier than to the Alberfeldkogel, but shortly after the summit cross of the Helmeskogel, a few metres before the viewing platform, there is a narrow section where the trail descends relatively steeply on both sides. So be sure to use the good grip of the snowshoes. Some people who are not afraid of heights can take a break at the summit cross and then make their way back. Views of the Tote Gebirge and the surrounding mountains await you at the viewing platform. Then it's back down into the Edeltal valley to the Kranabethhütte and from there another 15 minutes to the cable car mountain station.
NOTE: Ski tours and snowshoe hikes in open terrain require responsible behaviour with regard to weather and snow conditions. Prepare yourself accordingly! Walking on the snowshoe trails with hiking boots only is not recommended under any circumstances; in normal weather conditions, you can suddenly collapse on the snow cover in places and there is a high risk of injury.
