Climbing area Grenzeck

Grenzeck is a climbing area near the front Aurachkar in the Höllengebirge.

Characteristics

The Vordere Aurachkar is bordered on its right side (as viewed from the mountain) by a striking rock face that supports the pylons of the Hochlecken material cable car.

Due to its eastern exposure, the wall is sunny in the morning and in the shade from early afternoon onward. The routes are well-protected with 10-mm bolts. Climbing in chimneys and dihedrals is mostly challenging and physically demanding. The first pitches of each route are partially overhanging.

A 50-meter double rope is required for rappelling down the routes.

Approach

Duration: about 45 minutes

From the Taferlklaussee parking lot, the approach follows hiking trail No. 826 toward the Hochleckenhaus. After crossing the tree line, the trail runs along the gravel gully that spans the entire width of the Vorderes Aurachkar.

About 100 meters higher up, on the right, there is a large boulder with a commemorative plaque. There, the approach branches off from the hiking trail and leads past this boulder to the base of the lower sector below the middle ramp.

To reach the upper sector, the approach initially stays on the hiking trail. About 100 m past the turnoff for the Hochleckenkogel, there is a rock to the right of the trail with distinct climbing tracks and a viewpoint. To the left of this, a mountain goat trail leads through mountain pines to the base of the wall. The approach leads directly to the middle ramp.
