Up and Down Through Town and Forest

Hikers can expect a challenging, undulating route on this tour, which runs partly along local roads and partly through the nearby municipal forest. The view of the Danube Valley from the Nature Friends summit cross in Lanzenberg is a special highlight of this tour.

From the Center to the Heights

From the main square, the route leads out of the town center and through a quiet residential area up to the Karlingberg. We tackle the first noticeable climb via Schützenweg. Passing the Perg Golf Course and the Karlingberg Estate’s disc golf course, we cross the state highway and hike along the sidewalk through the residential area to a pedestrian crossing. After crossing the road again, the trail heads downhill to the former Kuchlmühle inn, from where the path continues westward.

View from the summit of the Lanzenberg

We cross the Naarn River and the state highway (be careful when crossing!) and follow the access road to the clay pigeon shooting range. This long, shady climb takes us to the edge of the Lanzenberg district. At the road, we turn right and shortly thereafter reach the summit cross. On a clear day, a short rest is rewarded with a sweeping panoramic view over the Danube Valley all the way to the Alps.

Forest Section and Historical Traces

We follow the trail back a short distance and, shortly after the “Ascent” sign, take a sharp left downhill. After about 1,000 meters, pay close attention: the trail veers sharply to the right, runs along the edge of the forest for about 100 meters, and finally enters the woods. Following the course of the Hinterbach stream, we hike downhill to the settlement of Oberer Vormarkt. A short loop takes us right past the Scherer Mühlsteinbruch and the Steinbrecherhaus open-air museum—it’s worth stopping here to learn more about the region’s history via the audio guide.

Back to the main square through the community forest

Following Trail No. 4, we pass through the settlement and into the community forest. Here, the most challenging section of the tour awaits us: a narrow path leads steeply downhill to the Stefaniehain. Passing the Erdstall (tours available only for groups of 6 or more by advance reservation), we finally reach Mühlsteinstraße and make our way back at a leisurely pace to the starting point at the main square.
