Zwergerlweg

On the Zwergerlweg trail in Steinbach am Attersee, a path through the forest is lined with many dwarves and other fairy-tale characters—such as Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf, or even the witch in the mill—waiting to greet curious young visitors.

This family walk through the forest begins at the Auboden parking lot in Kaisigen. To get there, turn right uphill at the Hausmühle. The road leads to the parking lot.

From the parking lot, Hiking Trail No. 3 leads toward Feld. The “Hansl-Mühle” dwarf signpost shows the way. Passing dwarves and fairy-tale characters, the route continues to the village of Feld. The return trip follows the same path.

Alternatively, the “Zwergerlweg” can also be walked as a loop trail. The starting point for this is the Steinbacher Hausmühle. From the mill, the trail leads directly uphill along the Alte Großalmstraße. Once at the top, the route branches off to the right at the first opportunity onto the gravel path and follows it until you reach the “Zwergerlweg” sign.

After the Zwergerlweg, the route heads right downhill into the village of Kaisigen and then back along the quiet road to the starting point at the Hausmühle. This loop takes about an hour and is just under 2 km long.

Cameroon sheep can be seen along the loop trail. With a little luck, you might also spot zebras, donkeys, or alpacas.

Note:
The Zwergerlweg is not suitable for strollers, as there are narrow sections, steps, and tree roots on the forest trail.
