Viktor Kaplan Themed Trail

The Austrian inventor Professor Dr. Viktor Kaplan (Kaplan turbines) is at the centre of this theme trail.

Starting from the main square, the well signposted Viktor-Kaplan-Thematic Trail leads across the lower part of Kirchengasse, the Kirchenplatz steadily uphill to the kindergarten and further under the Attersee-Bundesstraße into the Kohlstatt. Follow the road Kohlstatt, which opens up a vast settlement and then rises the slope to the north. One comes to the first of the display boards, which are distributed over the whole circular route and inform about the famous inventor Viktor Kaplan (1876 - 1934), but also about geological topics. At the road fork after house no. 61, take the left-hand lane, at the end of which a forest path begins. After about 10 minutes you reach Rochuspoint, the former residence of Kaplan with several buildings and a pond. After another 150 m you will reach the mausoleum, where the chaplain is buried. Still about 1 km the way remains at the height and then leads back into the valley. There you can stop at Gasthaus See am Mondsee before crossing the Seeache and hiking back to Unterach on its southern shore. You pass the small power plant with Kaplan turbine from Sandoz / EBEWE. At the Unterburgauer Steg you cross the Seeache at the campsite again and get into the recreational area and from there back to the main square.
