Hiking trail in Kaltenberg in the Mühlviertel region

Imposing rock formations are typical of the Mühlviertel. And you will discover these and more on a hike along the Obergrabenweg trail. Shortly after the starting point in Kaltenberg, at the first farm along the trail, you can marvel at a 300-year-old listed lime tree. The trail continues through beautiful meadow and forest paths to the Phallusstein: a stone with a bowl that is formed by the weather and was understood to be a special divine revelation. This is followed by an impressive ascent to the Rifflberg. A fantastic panorama awaits you here: a sweeping view of the Mühlviertel hills in the direction of Sandl. You should definitely plan some time to linger here before heading back to Kaltenberg.
The trail
The Obergrabenweg is a circular hiking trail. With a length of 7.5 km and an elevation gain of around 230 metres, it is suitable for a two-hour hike. In wet weather, good footwear is recommended for the hike.

Refreshments along the way
At the starting point in Kaltenberg, the traditional Kaltenbergerhof inn with its traditional cuisine invites you to stop for a bite to eat. In the cosy restaurant or in the guest garden, you will be well catered for.
Close to the village, around 900 m from the town centre, you will find the Langoth snack station, which will spoil you with a hearty snack, hearty meals and homemade pastries.
