On the Steininger Berg (855 m), the highest point in the municipality of Schönau, there is a legendary rock, the Herrgottsitz. The summit cross is easy to climb for those with average experience using a rope. In the seat-shaped hollow at the top, the good Lord is said to have rested and smiled gently at the Mühlviertel hills after having created them so charmingly and lovingly. At the time of the Counter-Reformation, Protestants are also said to have held secret meetings and celebrations at this place. In the immediate vicinity is the summit of the Steininger Berg and to the east you have a wonderful view over Schönau and the Ruttenstein ruins. You return to the village via the "Stoaninger Alm" with its speed gliding railway and snack station.
