Cross-border bike tour (take travel document with you)!

0 km Taking off from Marktplatz Aigen take the road between Hotel Almesberger and the church, pass the railway station on your right and take the level road towards Baureith. There, take a left and, at a leisurely speed and with the R5 State Bicycle Path running alongside, continue to Wurmbrand (short ascent) and Günterreith until you reach

6.6 km St. Oswald. At the fountain and the parking lot, turn left and then go around the right hand corner. At the memorial for displaced people, turn left and ascend to the former customs building.

8 km border with Czechia. Follow the dirt track for a little while and continue on the broken-up asphalt road. Note that this road is very bumpy all the way to

10.8 km Rosenhügel/Koranda. (Large crossroads, shelter). At this point, the Schwarzenberg Canal crosses the European water divide – 220 years ago, this marked an astonishing feat of technology. Cross the Canal and continue downhill. At the crossroads in the depression, continue left to the shores of the

14.7 km Lipno Reservoir. In 1957, the Vltava River was dammed at Lipno to operate a hydro power plant. Here, entire villages were swallowed by the waves. You will reach a dam and can see Bayrische Au on your left. The road will reach a crossroads. Continue straight towards Přední Zvonková. Hugging the Reservoir, the hilly path will reach a crossroads

25 km where you take a left towards Přední Zvonková (Vorderglöckelberg). Right before the town, take another left.

26.7 km Zadní Zvonková (Glöckelberg). Back on the asphalt road, leave it eastwards and follow the Alluvial Canal to the border crossing at the Rotbachschleuse Lock. At the junction with the asphalt road, continue on the left and you will shortly reach

29 km Sonnenwald. In its heyday in the Mid-19th century, the Sonnenwald glass factory produced high-quality consumer and decorative glass products. In 1854 alone, it produced 33 tons of glass. Back then, this place was home to 170 people – hard to imagine today. The glass factory was located above the Canal, nothing of it remains today. Follow the Canal road and you will reach other locks and the “die 7 Raben”  (“7 Ravens”) sculpture.

36.1 km Continue to the Schrollenbachschleuse Lock. After about 200 m, turn right and leave the Canal. On a gently ascending section, you will reach the paved district road. Continue on the right until you reach

38.5 km Oberhaag. (Possibility to visit Schwedenschanzen) From here, a steep downhill section takes you back to the starting point
