The approx. 4.2 km long circular trail runs from the center of Kirchdorf am Inn in an easterly direction at the foot of the Leite and then leads along a forest path up the Leite to Katzenberg. Groups can visit the imposing Katzenberg Castle with its privately owned book printing exhibition by prior arrangement. The Schlosstaverne inn, which belongs to the castle, offers hikers a quiet, cozy garden and invites you to stop for a bite to eat with home-style cooking. The castle hiking trail leads back down the Leite via the so-called Schwemmberg - past a viewing platform with a view of the Lower Inn European nature reserve - and back to Kirchdorf.
There is the option of walking a short loop through the Katzenberg castle park : the entrance to the castle park is at the Schlosstaverene inn (admission: € 2.00 at the turnstile). The path leads through the chestnut tree avenue and then into the newly designed castle park. A wrought-iron gate leads into the rose garden. Before returning to Kastanienbaumallee, you can take a look at the old castle and its buildings. Duration: approx. half an hour.
Experience the landscape and culture along the Inn
The "Life on the Inn" display boards, which are located at several selected places along the trail, provide information about the historical, cultural, geological features and traditions of this habitat. The "Lower Inn European Reserve" around Kirchdorf am Inn has a lot to offer. A total of 300 bird species are at home here. Rare animals and plants, such as the beaver, can also be encountered here.
