Helmbrecht Pfad

Starting place: 5122 Hochburg-Ach
Destination: 5122 Hochburg-Ach
Excursion into the Middle Ages
According to legend, the medieval epic of "Mayr Helmprecht" (written around 1280) actually took place in the area around Gilgenberg.
Accordingly, the "Helmbrecht Trail" invites hikers and cyclists to take a short trip back to the Middle Ages. The tranquil and well signposted path leads from Burghausen via Hochburg/Ach to Gilgenberg.
The one-way route to Gilgenberg is around twelve kilometres, the entire circular route around 30 kilometres. A dozen historical information boards provide an insight into medieval life and its language, Middle High German, as the boards are bilingual. What did people eat and drink? Who was allowed to carry weapons? And what was it like with the robber barons? The trail leads to the farm in Gilgenberg, which was called Helmbrechtshof in the Middle Ages. Along the way, there are refreshment stops in inns and also a "Helmbrechts-Schänke".
