Recommended season:
  • May
  • June
  • July
  • August
  • September
  • October

Properties:
  • Loop
  • Scenic
  • Refreshment stops available
  • Summit route

Description:
From the Viehtaleralm, walk up along the edge of the forest to the forest road, which you follow to the Menaueralm. You should definitely allow time for a detour to the Schüttbauernalm. Strengthened, you then walk over the Sandgatterl to the Bodenwies (1,540 m). Continue along the mountain ridge and down to the forest road back to the starting point.

Trail number: 495, 496

Directions:
From the alpine pasture area of the Viehtaleralm, trail 495 leads up next to the former ski slope at the edge of the forest to a flat saddle. Then follow the markings on the forest road to the Menaueralm.

From here it is only a short detour to the idyllically situated Schüttbauernalm. We recommend that you make time for a stop for refreshments - the best food with a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains!

After the detour, the hike leads to Sandgatterl and along the mountain ridge to Bodenwies. Continue along the mountain ridge on trail 496 to reach the forest road again and return to the starting point.

Tip:
Enjoy the view to the Haller Mauern, the Gesäuse, the Ötscher, the Hochschwab and of course to the Tote Gebirge in front of us.
