Oberweng - Gowilalm - Small Pyhrgas

The Kleine Pyhrgas is situated a little to the north of the main ridge of the Haller Mauern - this makes the panoramic view below its summit cross particularly interesting and attractive. Its north-west ridge is also home to one of the most beautiful alpine pastures in the region, which alone is worth the climb.

You hike from the Goslitz car park in Oberweng to the Gowilalm. It is an easy hike on a wide, but steep path in places.

We follow the signposts to the Gowilalm or hiking trail number 616. In the forest, continue to follow the signs for 616, then the path leads over a steep and wooded ridge up to the Gowilalm, which is situated at 1,375 metres above sea level and is well managed.

We continue uphill and choose path 619, which branches off to the left just above the Gowilalm and climbs through steep mountain pine slopes and rocky terrain high above the Holzerkar. Finally, we climb along the upper edge of the sloping summit meadow to the cross.

From the Gowilalm, we recommend descending to the left along path no. 617/618 into the Holzerkar. At the forest road is the alpine hut of the same name (not serviced), from there it goes - soon crossing another forest path - down into the valley of the Goslitzbach. Past the Schmeißlreith you come to a fork in the trail: turn right, crossing the stream and staying in the valley, to reach the Goslitz farm and return to the starting point.

The more challenging ascent to the summit requires surefootedness and a head for heights.
