Description: The brine pipeline route is closed in the section from Steeg in Bad Goisern to Bad Ischl
will probably be closed until the end of May 2025 due to maintenance work.
Should the work be completed earlier than planned, we will of course inform you in good time about an early opening.
We ask all hikers for their understanding.
The Salzkammergut Brine Pipeline Trail leads along the oldest pipeline in the world from Hallstatt via Bad Goisern and Bad Ischl to Ebensee.
Starting at the Hallstättersee Lake it leads you through the Inneres Salzkammergut region with its lovely mountains and towns, and ends up at the Lake Traunsee. The trail follows the world’s oldest pipeline, which was established in 1607. In order to make the brine flow, the pipeline, as well as the path, slopes down slightly, and therefore the “Soleweg” is a rather light walk. The Soleweg is due to maintenance and danger of falling rocks between Steeg and Hallstatt closed !!!
You can start the trail in Hallstatt on the saltmountain, in Hallstatt behind the catholich church or in Bad Ischl and also in Ebensee.
There is no fee for hiking the trail.
