The Heilbronn circular hiking trail is a very family-friendly and easy-to-walk karst hiking trail that leads past the Dachstein shark and the Heilbronn Cross.
The family-friendly circular hiking trail at over 2000 m altitude
From Obertraun (510 m), the Dachstein Krippeinstein cable car takes you over 1,600 metres in altitude. At Krippenstein (2,100 m), you can look out over the immensely wide Dachstein plateau
From the mountain station of the Dachstein Krippenstein cable car, the well-maintained trail leads over hilly terrain, which is densely overgrown with leguminous pines.
After approx. 45 minutes walk you will reach the Dachstein shark, the latest attraction on the circular hiking trail. It is particularly popular with younger hikers because you can climb into the shark and marvel at the beautiful landscape through its mouth. The Dachstein shark therefore quickly became a popular photopoint.
After another 45 minutes, the circular hiking trail leads you to the Heilbronner Kreuz. This cross commemorates the tragedy on the Dachstein at Easter in 1954, when 10 pupils from Heilbronn and 3 teachers lost their lives during a hike into the Dachstein massif when the weather fell.
Continue westwards - past Hirzkarsee - to Krippeneck and the Gjaidstation of the Dachstein Krippenstein cable car (another 1.5 hours). Take a 15-minute walk to the terrace of the Gjaid Alm for refreshments. Afterwards, you can take all three sections of the cable car over the Krippenstein back down to the valley!
Our tip: Make a stopover at the Dachstein Krippenstein. Take another 2 hours and visit the viewing platform "5fingers" and the World Heritage Spiral. You will be rewarded with a fantastic view of the entire World Heritage region. The Lodge am Krippenstein and the Mountain Restaurant Dachstein Krippenstein will take care of your physical well-being.
