One of many ways to reach the Schafberg!
Attention - climbing experience is recommended after the Eisenau Alp!
The starting point is the car park for the public beach. In the water you will find a rock with two crosses on it; the area here is named "Kreuzstein" after it. From here, it's a steep path up into the forest, where after 10 minutes we will we reach the spectacular Kreuzstein waterfall - our first highlight. Continue through the forest up past several streams and a spectacular bridge construction with well-secured ladders to reach a hunting lodge with a wonderful view over the Mondsee. From here it's just a few more minutes until we reach the Eisenau Alp. This route is also very accessible for children, and is a unique experience.
At the Eisenau, the trails turns right over alp meadows and back into the forest. It follows a steep ascent to the Suissensee. Once at the top, continue right, always remaining beneath the peak of Schafberg. The last section is the so-called Himmelspforte (Heaven's Gate) - things get a little tricky here. The steep and rocky climb is rather challenging for hikers and should only be attempted in dry weather.
The Schafberg rewards you with a fantastic view!
