Visit lovely Traun that sprawls on the banks of the River of the same name - You´ll find Upper Austria´s fourth largest town within the boundaries of its capital Linz...
The name "Traun" itself is derived from the Celtic word for river. Traun has a long history dating back to the Neolithic Age. Evidence of this early settlement are ancient tombs and graves that were found on the Roman Road that once joined Wels to Lorch. In the 6th century AD the Bavarians came to Traun. The first rural settlement was founded around the Moated 12th century Traun Castle. These days long past, the economy of the area was heavily based upon fishing and milling. However, Traun owes its prosperity and much of its historic architecture to the paper and cloth industry that developed from the early 20th century. On May 21, 1973 the village was granted the Town Charter. You can also visit us on
