For safety reasons and due to clean-up work, stages 2 + 4 + 5 are therefore closed until further notice. The Trans National Park leads from Steyr to Johnsbach in 6 day stages. The route crosses 2 national parks and 2 federal states: the Kalkalpen National Park in Upper Austria and the Gesäuse National Park in Styria.

* Stage 01 Steyr - Reichraming
Start full of contrasts: From one of the most beautiful historical cities in Austria through the lonely Reichraminger Hintergebirge to the tranquil village of Reichraming.

    * Stage 02 Reichraming - Windischgarsten
In the middle of the wilderness: Crossing the wooded and lonely Kalkalpen National Park to the pretty climatic health resort of Windischgarsten.

    * Stage 03 Windischgarsten - St. Gallen
Between countries and mountains: Over the Hengstpass between Reichraminger Hintergebirge and Ennstal Alps from Upper Austria to Styria.

    * Stage 04 St. Gallen - Palfau
Village hopping: via Weißenbach and Großreifling to Palfau - and in between lonely hills, forests and alpine pastures.

    * Stage 05 Palfau - Mooslandl
A short stage from Palfau via Gams to Mooslandl: time to relax and visit the Nothklamm, which is well worth seeing.

    * Stage 06 Mooslandl - Johnsbach
Through the Yosemite Valley of Austria: always in the face of the rugged north face of the Gesäuse mountains over the Hochplattenalm to the mountaineering village of Johnsbach.
Starting point: In the old town of Steyr, at the confluence of the Enns and Steyr. Public arrival with the ÖBB possible. Free parking on the Reithoffer site, additional parking in the Stadtplatzgarage (for a fee!).
Destination: Mountaineering village of Johnsbach. There is a train connection back to Steyr from Weißenbach / St. Gallen. On Saturday and Sunday there is a train from Johnsbach (Weidendom station) twice a day at 11:08 and 17:08 in 2 hours to Steyr! From the mountaineering village of Johnsbach, the return journey is not a problem on weekends and public holidays: on these days there is even a direct train between Vienna and Selzthal, stopping at Johnsbach station and offering many connection options, including to Steyr. On the other days you have the option of booking a shared taxi to the nearby train stations, or you can cycle to Weißenbach-St. Gallen. Gesäuse shared taxi T +43 (0)3613 21000 99.

Accessibility / arrival

The Trans National Park consists of 6 daily stages and leads from Steyr in Upper Austria to Johnsbach in Styria.
The return journey is possible by train from Weißenbach bei St. Gallen to Steyr.

On Saturday and Sunday there is a train from Johnsbach (Weidendom station) twice a day at 11:08 and 17:08 in 2 hours to Steyr!

A bike shuttle bus runs between Steyr and Windischgarsten / Spital am Pyhrn from May to October. All information at www.radshuttle.at
