information: Akutmeldung/Information

Description: Please note that you will climb approx. 1,900 metres in altitude on this hike. It is therefore advisable to spend the night in the Prielschutzhaus.

High alpine and scenic tour to the highest peak of the Tote Gebirge with 2,515m.
The bright red summit cross is visible from afar from the valley and exudes a great attraction to mountaineers. On rocky and steep paths you will enter the surprisingly lively world of the "Dead Mountains" and look far over the Stoder Valley.

The trail requires surefootedness and a head for heights. Beware of snow and fog! Due to its length, we recommend an overnight stay in the Prielschutzhaus.

BIKE: from the center of Hinterstoder, follow the R307 cycle path in the direction of Polsterstüberl. You can also follow the state road into the valley to the changing point at the Polsterstüberl.

For the bike tour you have to add approx. 5 km and 25 minutes to the given route data.

HIKE: Detailed description to the Prielschutzhaus (walking time approx. 2 hrs): Follow the signs from the Polsterstüberl, where the actual climb to the Prielschutzhaus begins. Past the Klinser waterfall, the "Gott-sei-Dank-Bankerl" and the Großer and Kleiner Ofen (caves), the broadly trodden trail leads in serpentines through the deciduous forest to the Prielschutzhaus (1,420 m).
Descent on the same route.

Continue to the Großer Priel (walking time approx. 3 hrs): From the Prielschutzhaus continue on trail no. 201 and then on trail no. 260 over a rocky ridge up into the Kühkar. On the left (southern) edge of the cirque, walk over scree to the flank below the Brotfallscharte. The following rock steps and ledges are secured with steel ropes. From the ridge follow the mark 260 (262) on the wide scree ridge towards Großer Priel. Directly above the mighty north face, the climb leads in steady ups and downs to the 8 m high summit cross.
The descent follows the same route (walking time approx. 2 hrs).

Descent variant: Do not descend into the Kühkar, but follow the trail no. 262 to the Fleischbanksattel. From there straight on towards Pühringerhütte, later turn left towards Temlberg and Prielschutzhaus through the flat karst terrain to the south. Then take trail no. 201 to the Klinserscharte and continue between the Spitzmauer and Brotfall through the Klinserschlucht gorge, from the end of which the Prielschutzhaus is again in sight.

Trail numbers: 201, 260
Starting point: Ride your bike from the large cable car car park in Hinterstoder along the R307 cycle path to the Polsterstüberl changing point.
Destination: The big red summit cross on the Großer Priel (2,515m).
